She was telling me about how different stars are when they come in sans make-up to see her, their table manners… you know, the juicy things we wish we didn’t talk about? Well, she then said that the one woman that she has worked with and that she believes is the most stunning, and is even more beautiful all-naturale, is our style icon of the day: Ms. Halle Berry.

And the one clothing piece that Halle seems to not ever be without is the tunic.  Needless to say, we at Guru totally agree! With every season comes popular trends that I either love or hate.  Let’s be honest: we all have our favorites, right? Well this season, one of the trends that I can’t help but absolutely love is the embrace of sheer fabrics.  For many people, the idea of anything sheer is scary. It doest have to be! Now anyone can join the “sheer” madness if they know how to do it. Designers have incorporated this trend into their new collection with blouses, dresses, gowns, and even pants.

Wearing sheer allows us the coverage we want, but gives a light, effervescent look that is perfect for Spring and Summer.  A great attribute for sheer clothing is that it looks effortless.  For a fun Spring sheer look: Try adding a soft, airy piece of sheer clothing, like Guru’s Inga Top,

annual three-block fête on 60th Street from 12-5pm!

Each year, Bastille Day on 60th Street brings the best of France to New York for
an afternoon of activities and delights for the entire family. Kids can play a round
of pétanque or get their faces painted at the Kids Corner booth. From tasting
delicious treats to listening to music at our day-long concert, everyone will enjoy
the myriad attractions provided by artists and artisans from various regions
of France, as well as other French-speaking countries.

For more than ten years, Bastille Day on 60th Street has been the largest
public celebration of the historic friendship between France and the United States
commemorating France’s own Independence Day on July 14, 1789.
Shop the French-themed market stalls, try your luck at the raffle, and stop by
the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) at 22 East 60th Street for wine
and cheese tastings. Vive la France!

Giving us an impromptu demonstration during our tour, the owner of a small textiles unit in Jaipur, India, set out a square of natural handloom cotton on the table, dipped the side of his palm into freshly made vegetable paint, and rolled the side of  his palm, bottom touching first, then up towards his curled pinky, leaving behind an indigo paisley shape. “People didn’t have tools to create intricate designs…so they used what was readily available…their hands.”  The paisley element is seen in Indo-Pak culture since the beginning of time.  ”It represents the mango (a symbol of prosperity and fertility) as it is shaped like the variety of mangoes we have here in this region.”
